2012 Resolutions
I have never really been one for New Year’s Resolutions. Come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever really made any. This year, however, I’ve decided that is important for me to create some resolutions and to write them down, that way I can look back a year from now to see how I’ve done.
All of the resolutions I’m about to relay to you all are most certainly goals I hope to achieve throughout the tenure of 2012. None of them are particularly specific to being “New Year” goals, but instead I’m choosing the start of 2012 as my not so arbitrary start point for these goals.
Lose Weight – This is probably the only thing I have ever used as a New Year’s Resolution in the past, but this year I am hoping that I am much more serious about it than I have been in past years. As of this morning I weighted a whopping 330 pounds, and my current goal is to get that down to 260 lbs by my birthday, August 18th. That is 70 lbs over the next 7 and a half months, a high goal that I am going to do my best to achieve. After my birthday I am going to reassess my situation and see what my goal weight will be by the end of the year. I have no idea how low my weight can get considering my height and build but by then I hope I’ll have a much better idea.
Also, to clarify, I do not consider the number that corresponds to my weight to be the most prominent feature of this goal. The 260 goal is one that I feel is reasonable for my height and build and I will likely feel much better about my health and physique when I hit that number, which is more important to me than the number itself. I don’t even fret too much about the 330 I currently weigh as most people are shocked to hear that number anyway. Who knows, maybe my scale is broken. Regardless, losing weight is primarily about me feeling better and getting into shape so that I can enjoy life the way I want to, not to reach some arbitrary numbers set by the public because that is what is deemed good looking or appropriate.
Read 12+ Books – Ever since I graduated the time I spend reading recreationally has diminished year after year. I want to rectify that this year by reading at least one book a month. I’m going to start by finishing A Game of Thrones this week and then moving on to A Clash of Kings as my January book. After that I’ll finish up what is currently published of the A Song of Ice and Fire series and then move on to other works.
Self/E-Publish It’s a Love Story – There really isn’t much to be said about this. I simply want to do it and will do it, its only a matter of time and effort. Hopefully you all will be seeing it sooner rather than later in 2012, but it is coming.
Finish Punched – Similar to above, this one is pretty self-explanatory. I have been writing this book in my head for years (with some on paper) and it is really just a matter of sitting down and doing it.
Finish organizing my cards – Ever since my house burned down, a lot of my cards have been in disarray due to some them being ruined and/or the binders containing them were ruined. As such, I have a lot of my cards in boxes and they need to be bindered. I did a lot while living in the rental house, but there are still 6 or 7 boxes left. I think I can get it all done in a year, and if I can’t, that is really sad.
Finish organizing my comics – Pretty much the same idea as the cards (and for the same reason) but with my comics. I have an awesome plan for how to organize them, but again, its a matter of getting down there and doing it. I also need to build the shelving unit that will hold all the boxes, but that’s a day job once I get the materials together.
Do considerable work on the Ecto-1T – I can’t really put any goal on this one as it is very dependent on weather, income, and when my dad is available to help me with it. The Ecto-1T is not a project I can do alone and it requires a lot of materials, so there is no real way for me to be able to accurately predict how much of the project I will accomplish by the end of the year. At this point, if I could have the interior completely finished (it’s almost there as is), the rust sealed, the car sanded, the car painted, and all the materials for the roof rack together, I would consider that a very successful year.
I think that about rounds out all of the goals I have for the year. If I think of more I’ll be sure to update this post and let you all know about it, but for now I think these are the primary resolutions for 2012.
